The Bond film singer is said to have given birth to a baby boy on Saturday October 20 according to media reports but instead of this being an occasion to celebrate many people used the birth of her child as an opportunity to post offensive tweets.
Twitter became the main focus of the trolls with not only tasteless jokes being posted onto the micro blogging site but also some threats and real insults.
Probably the most common of all the tasteless jokes was the comment: “Adele was pregnant? I thought she was fat.” And it was this tweet that was then retweeted by other internet trolls hundreds of times over the weekend.
While some of the tweets could have been seen as lighthearted jibes there were also a number of tweets that had a very sinister undertone with some people tweeting about the health of the new born baby and making unjustified jokes about post natal depression and child deaths.
It has been widely reported how Adele used her heart break following the end of a relationship with a previous boyfriend to inspire her for her record breaking album 21.
And because Adele has drawn on personal experience for inspiration in the past users on Twitter then began to speculate about what would hep her to write her next album.
When one Twitter user posted a question asking what Adele would sing about on her next album someone replied with “Maybe her baby will die?”
While another Twitter user went as far as to write: “Aw Adele gave birth to a baby. Is it fat and handicapped lol? Just murder it already lol.” That user has since deleted her account on Twitter following the remark.
The birth of the little boy to Adele and her boyfriend Simon Konecki has not been official stated by the couple as yet but has been widely reported in the press around the world.
Adele has kept herself out of the lime light since she first announced her pregnancy on her website. She wrote at the time: “I’m delighted to announce that Simon and I are expecting our first child together. I wanted you to hear the news directly from me, obviously we’re over the moon and very excited but please respect our privacy at this precious time. Yours always, Adele xx”
Adele had been due to be present at the premiere of Skyfall, the new James Bond film which she sang the theme tune for but a source told The Sun: “Adele doesn’t want to leave her little boy’s side, it’s as simple as that.
“Right through her pregnancy she’s been practically shut in as she wanted to look after herself and the baby. now he’s here, she can’t bear heading out without him, even to hobnob with royalty.”
