In order to insure that your site keeps it’s ranking, you need to be proactive. There are things that you can do to insure that your site is not directly affected with the next Google update. Google has had two major updates within a year’s time. Many sites were not ready for the first update and ended up losing a dramatic amount of ranking due to the update. When the second update hit, some sites were proactive enough to make changes to their site so that they would not have to be affected negatively by the second update. There is going to be more Google updates in the future and you need to take the time to insure that your site is up to the high standards that Google is requiring.
Google is updating their system to make it more user friendly. They are ranking sites with easy navigation, a community of follower, and diversified traffic higher than other sites that are filled with keyword stuffed content. You need to be sure that your site is easy to navigate first and foremost. You may want to hire people to “tour” your site. Ask them to offer suggestions for things that they found to be difficult to do when they were “touring” and any suggestions they have for easier navigation.
The next thing you will need to do is to make sure that you have a community built. You can start your online community by building social media links. You can establish profiles for your business on Twitter or Facebook with direct links back to your site. This will show Google and other search engines that your site has a community of followers and is a valuable site.
The last thing that you need to do to avoid being hit by the next Google update is to start blogging. It is amazing how many sites simply keep the same information on their sites for years at a time without any updates. They do not link with other sites or ask for guest bloggers to add valuable information to their site. Guest blogging and requesting guests to blog on your site will diversify the traffic your site receives and show the search engines that your site has relevant information that is currently being sought. It often costs nothing to get a guest blog on your site and can make the difference between you gaining or losing rank when the next update occurs.
