Today’s marketers rely on social media to reach their audience and increase brand awareness. Social media accounts for 24 percent of all time that Americans spend online. With over 500 million users, Twitter is a perfect fit for businesses and customers alike. The average Twitter user has 208 followers. There are over 400 million tweets sent daily. The people who use this popular social network are hungry for new ideas, information, opportunities, products, and services. Business of all sizes can benefit from using Twitter.
When used properly, Twitter can help you establish your brand, interact with your prospects, track conversations, and find out more about your competitors. This microblogging platform allows you to connect with people around the world and expand your network. You can use it to create buzz around upcoming events, promote your website, and connect with bloggers and industry influencers.
Here are a few ideas on how to use Twitter for business in 2013:
Develop and Promote Your Brand
If you’re new to Twitter, focus on building your brand and creating relationships. Try to find people with similar interests and follow them. Share their links and engage in conversations. For the start, you should make connections and expand your company’s network. Create an appealing profile by adding your logo along with a targeted bio.
Build Your Network
Following the right people on Twitter is the key to success. Don’t follow people randomly. Search for industry influencers, popular bloggers, celebrities, local businesses, and reputable marketers. Leave comments on their posts and retweet their messages. This social network gives you a chance to connect with thousands of people, some of whom you would never get the chance to talk to otherwise.
When I open new Twitter accounts for clients I always start to get the ball rolling by following the top 20 people in their industry via Twellow. This then gets you started and tells the world about you and your brand.
Then at the same time I will make sure my client gets listed in all the major directories in Twellow and that their Twellow description is top notch.
Keep Customers Engaged
Many marketers and business owners are using Twitter for customer retention. Keeping customers engaged is essential to the success of your business. Offer useful information and answer people’s questions. Come up with a Twitter communication plan that will draw in potential clients. Try to connect with your audience at a more personal level. For example, you can share pictures of your office, behind-the-scenes information, and personal stories.
It is important that through social media you encourage them to share with their followers. That way it is like the old chain letters. Ten of your followers share a link and then they each of 100 followers. This then means that your one tweet is seen by 1000 people.
Then imagine if your following each has 1,000 followers and that 100 people share your link, then their 100 people share it with their 1000. Then if this goes up and up within their followers it is not hard for your link to be seen by millions of people.
But to be able to do this you have to offer something worth sharing….
And that is when viral images come into practice. Instead of just having a simple quote (like everybody else) why not make a nice pretty image and then have it with your logo, your link and of course the quote. They are easy to find the content for and get a lot of attention.
Here is one we have had on DSM Publishing’s Twitter feed recently:
And as you can see we have the quote but it also comes with our logo and url for company branding. So whenever someone shares it they are also sharing our brand.
Add Videos to Your Twitter Timeline
Video marketing is one of the most effective business tools out there. Why not use Twitter to share your videos to the world? Upload your videos on YouTube or other online platform, and then link to them in your tweet. This social network has recently launched a new service that enables users to take short videos from the Vine app and share them with their followers. You can use this innovative tool to spread the word about your brand and gain exposure.
