Does your business need banner ads? Are they really effective? Banner adverts get your products seen by thousands of people every day. Marketers and business owners use this form of advertising to increase website traffic and get more sales.
With the low costs of banner ads, you can increase your conversion rate and double your earnings.
However, there are a few things to consider before starting a banner advertising campaign.
Key Elements of a Banner Ad
Create banner adverts that support your marketing goals. Pay attention to the key elements of a good banner ad:
- Good use of space
- Strong text
- Creative message
- Brand incorporation
- Call to action
- Eye catching images
A great banner ad needs to fit your audience. If you want to get people’s attention, make your ads interactive. Use advanced features such as product scrolling, videos, tabbed browsing, product ratings, smart mapping, mouse tracking, and in-ad search. Statistics show that interactive ads are 63 percent more effective than standard banner ads.
Know Your Audience
How can you design a killer ad when you didn’t know who you’re talking to? Try to find out more about the people who visit your website. For example, if your site caters to young people and technology enthusiasts, choose creative banners with special effects and eye catching graphics. If you’re website is designed for business professionals, use more conservative ads. Your banner should be relevant to your target audience. Before creating your ad, know why people buy your products or services.
Write Effective Ad Copy
Having a professionally designed banner is not enough to attract traffic and boost your conversion rate. Writing effective ad copy is crucial. You have only a short amount of time to capture the attention of your prospects and make them click on your banner. Try to capture the essence of what your message is all about in less than five words. Remember the goal of your ad. Offer concrete information on what you have to offer. Don’t let your customers guess what content lies beyond – tell them what they will find if they click on your ad. Find a creative hook.
Make Your Ad Stand Out
Use compelling images and appropriate humour to make your ad stand out. Choose pictures and graphics that match you brand identity. Keep it simple. Avoid bright neon colours, false promises, and heavy graphics. Include a strong call to action in your ad. You can also try switching where you place your ads. Keep in mind that a good banner advert is one that sells the product without drawing attention to itself.
Two Banner Changes That Will DOUBLE Your Conversions
This is my Hostgator affiliate banner that I have used for many years. I have NOT changed it just because it still works and it still converts like crazy:
And it was made when Hostgator first started offering coupon codes which is going back a long, long time.
And you can see it live in action on my Hostgator VPS review post.
And I am going to use this as the model for the two banner changes that I wanted to talk about:
- Click Here – You must have a click here on the banner advert in some sort of position. Because the person that sees it needs a gentle nudge in the right direction to click on the banner. Whenever I have had banner adverts without this the conversions have been much lower.
- Unique Banners – Now this can make a lot of difference to your conversions. How many of the same old Hostgator banners have you seen? You know the ones as you have probably seen them on 50 blogs this year alone! Make your own add the company logo and get your point across. People will look at them as they are different and click through.
Have a look at what your banner adverts are offering right now and look at those conversions and tweak them so that they convert even better than they do now.
