If there is one thing that every single business needs, it is customers. Customers are what drive the success of your business; they are who you sell your products and services to and they are who create your income. No matter what type of business you have, you must have customers. And aside from just having customers, you have to have happy customers.
Let me paint a picture for you. Imagine you go to two different clothing stores. In one clothing store, the environment is unappealing, you can’t find what you are looking for, you don’t receive any help, you are ignored, and well, you just aren’t satisfied at all. In the second clothing store, you are greeted by a warm and welcoming environment and a warm and welcoming staff, you are offered help when you need it and you find exactly what it is that you are looking for. Which store would you be more likely to return to? Obviously, the second store, where you had the better experience. Why? Because you were a happy customer. I know that it may sound like a silly example and that it is an obvious point; but the truth of the matter is that so many people don’t succeed in the business world because they don’t make their customers happy.
So, what can you do, as an online business person, to make sure that your customers are happy? Here are a few pointers:
- Make sure that your Web site is attractive and easy to navigate. Your customers will be pleased to visit a Web site that is visually appealing and that is easy to navigate. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to find something on a Web site and not being able to figure out where to find it – this is a sure fire way to upset and turn away customers.
- Communicate with your customers. Make sure that you make communication an option on your Web site, whether it is via a forum or email. Customers like to be able to ask questions, to address issues and to offer praise.
- Respond to your customers. You want to respond to your customers when they communicate with you in order to ensure that they are happy. If someone contacts you about an issue, respond quickly, assure them that the issue will be resolved and work quickly to resolve the issue. If a customer contacts you with praise, thank him or her.
Customers are the backbone of your business; without them, your business wouldn’t exist – so make sure that they are happy.
