Building An RSS Mailing List

"Building An RSS Mailing List"We all know that a mailing list is an important component of an Internet marketing business. Just in case you don’t know, a mailing list is a list of people who sign up to receive emails from you. Through a mailing list, you can let your clients know about the new products or services that you are offering, any specials that you are offering and any new tips and ideas that you may have. So you see, a mailing list really is an important part of your business.

However, though a mailing list is important, many people misuse them. Instead of using a mailing list to send pertinent information that clients will actually gain from, a lot of people use mailing lists to spam, and for lack of a better word, harass people. Unfortunately, this has caused mailing lists to get a bad reputation. However, if done correctly, you can really benefit from a mailing list. How can you get the most out of your mailing list? – By combining it with your blog.

What do I mean when I say combining a mailing list with a blog? I mean that you can convert the RSS feed of your blog and turn it into emails that can then be sent out to the people on your mailing list.

Just in case you aren’t aware of what an RSS feed is, allow me to clarify. An RSS feed is basically the content of your blog that lets your readers know when you have added new content to your blog. This is a much easier way for your readers to find out about any new content that you have added to your blog because they don’t have to constantly check out your blog. All your readers have to do is open up their RSS reader and they will be able to see any new content that you have added to your blog.

So, when you combine the two; your mailing list and the RSS of your blog, any new content that is added to your blog will be sent to the people on your mailing list as an email. It’s really quite an ingenious idea. Your readers won’t feel like they are being spammed, you will be able to let them know about any new updates to your blog and you won’t have to worry about creating new content and content for your emails. In the end, building an RSS mailing list is a good thing for all parties involved.

If you are interested in building an RSS mailing list, there are several companies that provide such a service. Have a look around to find one that suits your needs.

So is an RSS mailing list different than if you were to do a “blog broadcast”? I know RSS is usually a set of links with a short description. Is that more effective than broadcasting your entire blog in a newsletter? AWeber has that feature built in.

      Thanks for your comment.

I actually prefer the blog broadcast feature on Aweber and thats what is used to deliver this exact post to my subscribers. However a lot of people prefer a free option and that’s what rss systems are like such as feedburner. Its just a case of if you pay for one you get more features.
